Description
Beaver First Nation is a Dane-zaa (Beaver) Treaty 8 First Nation located in northwestern Alberta, with its governmental headquarters at Boyer River near High Level. The Nation administers two reserve parcels — Boyer 164 and Child Lake 164A — and has a registered population of roughly 1,065 members, with a significant portion residing on-reserve and many others living off-reserve across Alberta. Beaver First Nation is a member of the North Peace Tribal Council, which collaborates regionally on governance, social services, and economic priorities alongside neighbouring First Nations. The community operates under an elected Chief and Council that guide governance, community development, and land stewardship within its traditional territories. Economically, Beaver First Nation’s development agenda reflects its commitment to land management, workforce capacity building, and strengthening local services. The Nation’s location and membership in the North Peace Tribal Council position it to engage collaboratively on regional economic initiatives, land use planning, and resource-sector consultation — particularly given its presence within the resource-rich Peace Country of northern Alberta. Beaver First Nation also participates in provincial economic enhancement programs, including eligibility for initiatives such as the First Nations Development Fund, which supports community-driven economic, social, and infrastructure projects. Looking ahead, Beaver First Nation’s opportunities lie in land-based development, workforce training, regional partnerships, and enhanced participation in resource and community infrastructure planning. Through continued collaboration with the North Peace Tribal Council and engagement in provincial and federal economic programs, the Nation is working to expand employment pathways and support community-led growth that honors Dane-zaa culture and stewardship values.
