DescriptionCold Lake First Nations (CLFN) is a Dënesųłiné (Chipewyan) Treaty 6 First Nation based in northeastern Alberta, with its headquarters in Cold Lake and reserve lands including Cold Lake 149 and associated parcels such as 149A, 149B, 149C, and shared Blue Quills territory. CLFN has a registered membership of about 2,960 members, with over 1,300 living on-reserve across its lands in the Bonnyville No. 87 area and surrounding traditional territories. The Nation’s governance is led by an elected Chief and Council who focus on cultural preservation, community health and education, and sustainable economic development that honors the environment and Treaty rights. Economically, Cold Lake First Nations prioritizes environmentally responsible growth, local business development, and regional partnerships. The Nation’s Economic Development Department works to improve quality of life for members by creating and expanding businesses, enhancing employment opportunities, and supporting long-term sustainability across sectors. CLFN’s business environment includes a range of Nation-owned and affiliated enterprises, notably Primco Dene Group of Companies, which provides industrial, consumer, and service solutions and has partnered with major energy sector players while also operating franchises and service outlets that support local employment. CLFN also participates in broader economic alliances such as Alberta HUB to link regional economic interests and attract investment in industries like oil & gas services, forestry, infrastructure, and commercial development. Looking ahead, Cold Lake First Nations is advancing a strategic economic vision that balances resource-based participation, infrastructure expansion, business diversification, and land stewardship. Continued focus on workforce training, entrepreneurial support, and partnerships with government and industry positions CLFN to strengthen local employment, expand commercial opportunities, and guide community-centred development across its traditional territory.
