Ahousaht First Nation is a proud Nuu-chah-nulth Nation whose principal community, Maaqtusiis, is located on Flores Island in Clayoquot Sound, west of Tofino. The Nation’s extensive traditional territory includes marine waters, islands, forests and coastal areas that have supported its people culturally, socially and economically since time immemorial. As one of the larger First Nations on Vancouver Island’s west coast, Ahousaht plays an important role in regional governance, environmental stewardship and economic development. Its location within the internationally recognized Clayoquot Sound region provides a strong foundation for sustainable development that respects Ahousaht title, rights, culture and community priorities.
